The 15th annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition was held at the Rochester Plaza, March 21-22, 2016 in Rochester, NY. Known as the world’s largest wine competition to support a charity, is open to all commercial wineries from all wine-producing countries.
“This year’s Finger Lakes International Wine Competition has the most diverse international group of judges ever assembled on the East Coast of the U.S. to give the entrants the best possible global palate and global opinion.” said Peter Parts – the competition founder.
Over 3,708 wines were entered from 940 wineries, 27 countries, 6 Canadian Provinces, and all 50 United States.
The competition judges awarded 108 Double Gold, 200 Gold, 1,423 Silver and 1,308 Bronze medals this year. Special award categories include: the John Rose Award for the best in class Riesling and the Crystal Grape Award for the best in class Icewine. Awards are also given for the highest scoring Double Gold Chardonnay and for the highest scoring Double Gold Cabernet Sauvignon.
All proceeds from the competition and subsequent events benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and families all over the world, whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life-threatening challenges. Located in the heart of New York State’s Finger Lakes wine country, the Camp offers residential programs, year-round activities, and events for adults and children.
We are pleased to announce that two Sharrott Wines won Gold at the 2016 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. Our Dry Riesling, a fan-favorite, and Unoaked Chardonnay 2014 were awarded Gold Medals in a very competitive field of wines entered. Overall, Sharrott wines took 11 medals out of 13 wines entered.
According to our owner and wine maker, Larry Sharrott II, “Winning a medal at a competition of this caliber is an indication that we are producing quality wines that can stand with any wine in the United States or the World.”
“We are pleased to be recognized by the Finger Lakes International judges for our efforts,” he adds.
